This project displaced a flare stack at an active landfill with a fuel conditioning system and electrical power generation and switchgear. Part of the engine power is consumed to condition the landfill gas (LFG). In the first project phase, 17 cubic meters of LFG is delivered to a flare site where it is diverted to the gas conditioning system. The gas conditioning condenser reduces the amount of vapor from the gas stream to less than 15% by volume. Along with the leachate, miscible volatile organic compounds (VOCs), miscible salts and siloxanes are eliminated. The second project phase will occur as more LFG is available. This second phase makes use to the installed capacity of the switchgear and gas conditioning equipment and doubles the output of electricity. At the end of phase 2, the project produces 3,200 kW based on 34 cubic meters of processed LFG. The electrical energy is exported from the site to the local host utility company. The value of the energy is determined under a long-term power purchase agreement.
